Understanding Caller ID and Spam Labels
If your business phone number is being displayed as “Spam,” “Scam Likely,” “Potential Spam,” or a similar warning when calling customers, it is important to understand that these labels are generally determined by the telephone carriers and their call-screening systems.
ZoeVoIP provides the phone service and ensures that your caller ID information is properly configured within the VoIP system. However, the final decision regarding how a phone number is labeled on a customer's mobile phone is made by the individual carrier and its spam-detection system.
A number may receive a spam designation for a variety of reasons, including calling patterns, customer reports, carrier algorithms, or other factors used by the carrier's call-protection systems.
What Can You Do?
If your business number is being incorrectly identified as spam, we recommend taking the following steps:
1. Submit Your Number to T-Mobile
T-Mobile uses its own call-protection and spam-detection technology. If your customers using T-Mobile are seeing a spam or scam warning, you can submit your business number to T-Mobile for review.
Step-by-step guide:
Report an Improperly Identified Call to T-Mobile
2. Register Your Business Number
Businesses can also register their calling numbers through the Free Caller Registry.
Register Your Number with Free Caller Registry
Important: When completing the registration, use a company/business email address associated with your organization. Avoid using free email services such as Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail.
Registration helps provide carriers and call-labeling services with information identifying your number as a legitimate business number. However, registration does not guarantee that a carrier will immediately remove a spam designation.
3. Verify Your Caller ID Information
You can also check how your caller ID information is publicly listed and displayed by using:
This can help you verify the information associated with your business phone number.
Important: Spam Labels Are Controlled by Carriers
It is important to understand that no VoIP provider can directly control how every carrier labels a phone number.
ZoeVoIP can verify the caller ID configuration and the phone system settings on our network. However, the actual “Spam,” “Scam Likely,” or similar designation is generated by the receiving carrier's systems.
For this reason, correcting a spam designation may require submitting the number directly to the carrier or the appropriate caller-ID registration service.
Best Practices for Business Calling
To reduce the possibility of your numbers being incorrectly identified as spam:
- Use consistent and accurate caller ID information.
- Identify your business clearly when making outbound calls.
- Avoid making excessive or unusual call volumes from a single number.
- Avoid repeatedly calling customers who have requested not to be contacted.
- Register your business numbers with available caller-ID registration services.
- Monitor your numbers regularly across different mobile carriers.
- If a number is incorrectly labeled, submit it to the appropriate carrier for review.

Please remember that while we can verify and assist with the configuration on our network, the final caller-ID and spam classification is controlled by the receiving carrier.
